FIT Hendersonville 2- Bledsoe Creek State Park

This week’s FIT Hendersonville feature is Bledsoe Creek State Park. On the far eastern side of Sumner County just outside of Gallatin is where this hidden gem is located. Boating, hiking, kayaking, camping this state park has something for everyone!

Bledsoe Creek, once a hunting ground for Native Americans, is now a 164-acre state park that features 57 campsites and nearly 6 miles of hiking trails. Nestled on the banks of the Old Hickory Reservoir this state park will charm you with its beauty. If you get the chance it is the perfect place to have a picnic and watch the sunrise or sunset on the water.

There are so many things to do it is hard to fit them all in one post but I am going to provide you with a complete itinerary that guarantees a perfect active day at Bledsoe Creek State Park.

Arrive early, have a picnic breakfast on the water and watch the sunrise. Afterwards rent a kayak! Did you know they have kayak rentals? I DIDN’T! The process is incredibly easy and can all be done from your phone! The cost is $18.00 per hour and once you have your code you get your kayak, paddle and life jacket from the PaddleEZ locker! You will want to book this ahead of time using this link!

Once your kayak adventure is complete head up to the Visitor’s Center to pick up a snack, souvenir and most important a park map!

The park map will be your guide for the next part of your day. Pick the hike you would like to take and get started. My personal favorite is the lakeshore trail. Lakeshore trail is 1.5 miles and weaves in and out of the trees along the lake. There are plenty of places to stop for a rest be sure to have a seat and take in the views!

You will probably be starving after all of this exploring! Get your picnic basket out and enjoy lunch in one of the many pavilions through out the park! Spend the rest of the evening relaxing by the water, if fishing is your thing be sure to take your fishing pole.

Any of the above can be done any day of the week. The trails at Bledsoe Creek are open all year. However, this weeks featured workout is the Bledsoe Creek Escape! Teams of 2 will hike 3 miles around the state park uncovering clues. All teams that can successfully solve the clues will receive a hiking medallion. This event takes place on October 4th from 2-4 pm! Register here!

A full list of events can be found on the Bledsoe Creek State Park events page, there are some pretty cool ones coming up for Halloween. GET UP and GET OUTSIDE Hendersonville!
